Different Box Effects

Today I found more sound effects for our animation and recorded progress through video and picture taking. Elizabeth and Krista worked more on the effects and came up with this simple pretty design. Steff has made a lot of progress on the rig of the kodama, and it is looking really good.

Line Effects

Elizabeth worked really hard creating effects for when the kodama touches the tree in the first box. After feedback we decided not to go through with this idea and stick with simple glowing boxes. Krista has made more tweaks to the boxes such as changing the mountain sizes and portal positions. Steff is still working really hard on animating the kodama and Joanna is coordinating with any art changes as well. I have been taking pictures and videos of our progress.

More Projection Testing

Me, Krista, and Elizabeth have done more testing with the projector and making sure everything looks right while Joanna and Steff work on the art assets. We decided to make the portals black instead of grey to make them stand out more and read better visually. We had jagged lines for the edge of the mountain box but we made it more simple to not distract the viewers attention.

Animatics

Steff and Joanna put all the art assets together. Krista put together the images to create the animatic. I added sound to it. Elizabeth added visual effects to the video. The first link is the version I created and the last three are the ones Elizabeth added effects.

Box Creation

Me, Elizabeth, and Krista created the boxes. We took cardboard trifolds and foam core to create the boxes along with a lot of hot glue to hold it all together. The boxes have structural supports to make sure the structures do not break down and make them less flimsy while moving. The edges were filled with spackling to make the boxes look seamless. White spray paint was also used to hide the spackling and cardboard.

Our goal with the projection is to make the audience believe they are looking inside the box. Krista has worked hard on the perspective to make the inside of the box look believable while Elizabeth lines it up in madmapper. I stood where the audience would be and gave feedback about the perspective and took a picture of the final format. It took a lot of different versions but we finally created a believable perspective for the viewer.
